When I am at the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival, I try to get to Three Lakes Wildlife Management Area in order to see the aforementioned species and also Brown-headed Nuthatch , which for this New Yorker is a pretty cool bird to see. Three-for-three on my target species and it only took me two-and-three-quarters hours.

That will be the opening day of the 18th Annual Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival in Titusville, Florida. I had a great time back in 2012 and even more fun in 2014. As for Bill , I have only birded with him once, when he and some British birders were on a layover at JFK and I took them out to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

Having now visited Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in January this New Yorker will never have that problem again. All of these shots were taken at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge on Black Point Drive, an excellent wildlife drive that offers great, close looks at some awesome birds and other creatures.

This leads me to my third twitch for the celebrated Falcated Duck ( Anas falcata ) at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge in January of 2012. This was a no-brainer. I found it within 30 minutes.
