Barbaro, the magnificent thoroughbred who broke his leg two weeks after winning the 2006 Kentucky Derby (I watched both races live), was put to death after taking a turn for the worse in his recovery. It's a sad day for horse lovers. See here for the New York Times story. Barbaro's killing is a case of euthanasia.

He received the highest score in both my fall 2005 Social and Political Philosophy course and my spring 2006 Ethics course. Love, of course, isn’t sufficient for being a philosopher (it may not even be necessary), but Jonathan has a genuine aptitude for philosophy. I believe Jonathan’s plan was to become a medical doctor.

Bush signed the “ Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act ” into law this past Monday (November 27, 2006). The law protects animal enterprises from courses of conduct designed to disrupt their normal profitable functioning. On September 30, 2006, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced Senate Bill S. 4239 by voice vote.
