It is probably a rumor that writing a post about Australia and not mentioning kangaroos is illegal, but why take the risk?

Sometimes you gain armchair big ticks, like the White-tailed Blue-flycatcher I saw in Uganda in 2005 which later turned out to be in the Stenostiridae, a recently erected family. Sometimes you may even lose them, like the aforementioned woodswallows which are probably no longer a family.

In December 2005 a 50-foot, 50-ton, female humpback whale got tangled in crab lines and was in danger of drowning. In Torquay, Australia, after a mother kangaroo was struck by a car, a dog discovered a baby joey in her pouch and took it to his owner who cared for the youngster. A Grateful Whale.
