Some weekends last longer than others. Whether you enjoyed the extra day the United States sets apart to honor former Presidents or spent your day at work in a country predisposed to honor its current leader, you can decide what period best described your weekend.

Though I traveled to NYC this weekend, Ivy and I nailed down our best bird before I left; a Short-eared Owl has been hunting at a local park not 10 minutes from our house, which makes for the easiest owl sighting we’ve snagged in a long time! Corey got into Jamaica midafternoon on Saturday and has spent most of the time since then on the beach. Expected birds on the water in the Caribbean is mostly what he’s seen but an Antillean Palm Swift, his lifer, on the ride from the airport is his Beat Bird of the Weekend.

How about you? What was your best bird of the weekend? Tell us in the comments section about the rarest, loveliest, or most fascinating bird you observed. If you’ve blogged about your weekend experience, you should include a link in your comment.
