TAMPA, Fla. November 12, 2008) – Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby white rhinoceros on Wednesday, Nov. The female rhino was born in the night quarters adjacent to their 26-acre white rhino habitat on Busch Gardens’ Serengeti Plain.

Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby female reticulated giraffe on Tuesday, December 27, 2011. At 5 foot, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 127 pounds! That’s a big baby! The calf is the daughter of father, Jafari and mother, Tesa, who has previously given birth to four other calves at Busch Gardens.

I fly in to Orlando early Tuesday morning and I will immediately head west to Tampa in search of these two countable exotics. Add Nanday Parakeet and Budgerigar to my ABA Life List. This goal will either be reached or missed before the festival actually starts. Show lots of good birds to lots of birders!

Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay recently welcomed two more baby giraffes, bringing the herd to 17! And they are super cute too! The giraffes joined the rest of the heard on the Serengeti Plain on July 13th. What is neat about giraffes is that it is common for other members of the herd to become involved with the care of newborns.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomed a new baby reticulated giraffe just days ago. Weighing approximately 147 pounds at birth, the newborn is the calf of mother, Teesa, and father, Sterling. The addition brings Busch Gardens’ giraffe population to 15.

Sunday we had to head to Tampa to take a flight home, Brian back to the Richmond area for work and me to Washington. Down the beach it continued to make its way past other people and even dogs, though I hope for its sake it eventually took wing – it was a very long line of hotels. Great Egret.

Many visitors who come through Orlando or Tampa see maybe eight or ten species on a winter trip. Magnolia Warbler is an annual winter resident in small numbers in Miami-Dade, FL. . Few birders realize how many warblers actually do winter in southernmost Florida — even long time birders within the state.

From the 1940s to the 1970s, the species rapidly spread from the southern tip of the peninsula to areas north of Lake Okeechobee including the Tampa-St. According to the Florida Breeding Bird Atlas, the first confirmed breeding record was in Miami in July of 1938. Petersburg area and Cape Canaveral.

Petersburg, which is where I was headed after dipping the Bar-tailed Godwit north of Tampa. They are quite charming parrots, mostly green with a black facial mask and beak, red feathers around the thighs, a bluish tint to the chest, and blue edging the tail. They are relatively easy to find around St. I never got to St. Petersburg.

I loved them where I first found them at a refuge in North Carolina, I loved them at Bosque del Apache in New Mexico, I loved the single goose I spotted in an agricultural field outside of Tampa, standing next to a Sandhill Crane, and another singleton sitting in the midst of a Canada Goose flock in a Maine meadow.
