Portugal Pursued by EU for Poor Environmental Policies
From the Portugal News. The European Commission said on Wednesday it is pursuing legal action against Portugal for breaching nature protection legislation. Oh, it's no surprise that the Portuguese are allowing rampant development for tourism. But I'm glad the EU is calling them on it. Four other resorts are also planned nearby.

Scottish Judge Implies Wildlife Crime Not That Important
Lots of jerks in the news lately. Mr Drummond, who sits as a sheriff in the Scottish Borders, is chairman of PAW’s legislation, regulation and guidance subgroup. His remarks left delegates, including wildlife crime investigators, shocked and bewildered. The figures are to be published within two weeks.

Good News for Greyhounds
Here are a couple recent bits of good news. But voters called and e-mailed and sent letters to their legislators making sure that the original decision was preserved ! We who want humans to stop using sentient nonhumans have few victories to celebrate. Rhode Island's only dog track, Twin River, will be "suspending" dog racing.

Portuguese City Tries to End Killing of Strays
From the Portugal News Online. Under Portuguese legislation, stray and unwanted animals that are kept in municipal kennels, even healthy ones, can be put down after eight days if unclaimed. Portugal is NOT known for its kindness to animals so this is a significant development for a Portuguese city.
