Animal Advocates' Successes Have Factory Farmers Running Scared
A column entitled "Ag Industry Threatened by Animal Rights" appeared in today's High Plains/Midwest Ag Journal [ HPMAJ ]. On November 7, 2006, Arizonans voted overwhelmingly, by 62 percent, in favor of Proposition 204, to ban the cruel and intensive confinement of veal calves and pregnant pigs on industrialized factory farms.

New Research Shows Crabs Feel Pain
If you've ever wondered why I have a clinical view of the meat industry, it's because I worked for three years in the accounting department of a very large shrimp importer that also sold finfish, shellfish and value-added products (ie. I was afraid of this. frozen seafoods with sauces, etc.) It happens on the sea too.

BOCA to Stop Using Eggs by End of 2009
On March 19, 2009 a company representative emailed Compassion Over Killing: "…I am pleased to let you know the BOCA brand will be eliminating eggs in all of its products by the end of this year. We anticipate all BOCA products will be egg free in 2010." They are striking a blow against the cruel egg industry.

Animal Health Care is Part of the Bottom Line
The pig industry, says Dr MacDougald, is marked by generally poor production and financial analysis. We've argued in previous posts that factory farming is simply not conducive to animal welfare. Better conditions for animals hurt the bottom line. Animal welfare is a cost of doing business, not a moral obligation. Here's an example.

Egg Companies Accused of Price Collusion
Fresh-egg farmers acted together through a series of export shipments, organized by United Egg Producers, an industry cartel whose 250-plus members include virtually all of the nation's big egg producers. The Justice Department has opened investigations. It's in the Wall Street Journal. Scarcity then leads to high prices.
