Fishers who catch and release may kill more fishes than those who catch only the number they're legally allowed to keep. Perhaps.

Roger Cohen Realizes Dogs=Pigs, Sort Of
repeat: If you eat meat (I'd say: products that come from animals) , you cannot logically find it morally or ethically repugnant to eat a particular meat (i.e., product that comes from an animal ). Or pig, or duck, or fish. " Dog Days in China " is a small piece with no gruesome slideshow. Are they any more or less sentient?

Farmed Fish Are No Easy Solution
Many believe that the solution to our wild fish problems is to promote farmed alternatives. But, as with any kind of mass production, this is filled with all kinds of risks. Here's an article spotlighting farmed fishing in Chile. Eat farmed fish and create other environmental perils. Best not to eat either.

Canadian Sentenced for Ivory Smuggling
Fish and Wildlife Service, wildlife officials from Environment Canada and the U.S. Tania Siyam originally operated art import and export businesses in Montreal, Canada, and Cameroon that were fronts for smuggling products from endangered and protected wildlife species, including raw elephant ivory. Good news.

But there is a net loss in all meat production, not just of farmed fish or feeding fish to land animals being raised for food. Besides depleting the ocean’s supply of fish for those animals normally feeding on them, the factory farming of cattle, pigs and chickens uses excessive water and pollutes our land. Lawrence S.

From the Mailbag
At the time, I decided to continue eating fish, just to make sure that I wouldn't crave too much. Since then not a piece of land-animal has gone into my mouth on purpose, and rarely by accident (I have, I am sure, eaten some by product, such as gelatin, inadvertently, though I read ingredients on everything I eat now).
