It’s still possible (amidst the scurry to take from public lands) to protect our pristine wilderness areas. This particular land near the Tennessee-Georgia border is critical as a protection for Taylor Branch, a tributary of the Conasauga River. Thanks to The Chattanoogan for covering this event.

A few more Pied Oystercatchers start to breed

They were successful last year at raising one of the chicks, which is a rare event in Broome. However, once they have chicks to protect they have a lot more work to do. The other pair of Pied Oystercatchers that breed a few kilometres further south towards Gantheaume Point have also laid their first clutch of eggs.

Effects of Ocean Warming on Marine Wildlife [Scientific Publication from U Washington]

The study showed that a warmer ocean, particularly during marine heatwaves or El Niño events, resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands to millions of marine birds within one to six months of the temperature increase. These die-offs were linked to persistently warmer conditions in the Northeast Pacific in the preceding months.
