Beijing Olympics End, Let the Cruelty Begin Anew

I didn't watch a single minute of the games. From what I understand they were a wonderful testament to the combination of totalitarian governance married to vast corporate wealth. Yippee.

Note - this is not a knock against all those that competed. I don't have issues with them. I did have issues with the host country in this case because of the horrible way they treat animals, and their lack of any animal cruelty laws. I don't foresee any changes in the near future on that front.

China was awarded the Olympics on the condition that they would meet certain standards of behavior. They met none of those. And yet, the IOC President Jacques Rogge called then "truly exceptional games".

If anything the Chinese learned during these it's that given enough whitewash and money, other countries will swallow their Potemkin Village garbage. And so, nothing will change. They will continue to keep dogs and cats in cages too small to even stand up. Continue to boil them alive. Continue to abuse many other species with the full backing of the state.

What a truly exceptional game they've played.
