Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of February 2018)

February may not last as long as other months, but much happens from a phenological perspective in just 28.25 days. Have you recognized how different your immediate surroundings are compared to the beginning of the month?

All manner of spring species are turning up in the Finger Lakes region, but I’m still working on winter stragglers, which makes a self-found Iceland Gull my favorite of this weekend. Gulls two weeks in a row… what has become of me? Corey had several good birds to choose from this weekend but what he enjoyed the most is getting out to Breezy Point with Redgannet with the hope of finding a Snowy Owl and instead finding four! Now that’s a good outing and the most cooperative of the four Snowy Owls is Corey’s Best Bird of the Weekend.
